FE Exam Cost, Registration, Scheduling, and Test-Day Timing
Registering for the FE is not identical in every jurisdiction. The NCEES exam fee and computer-based format are common reference points, but board approval, application fees, and certification steps can vary by state or territory.
Current NCEES fee and appointment format
The current NCEES FE page lists a $225 exam fee paid directly to NCEES. A licensing board may require a separate application, approval, or fee, so the total cost can be higher depending on the jurisdiction.
Registration sequence
Start with the jurisdiction selector on the NCEES FE page. Some candidates can register directly, while others need board approval or an application before scheduling.
- Identify the state or territory whose requirements apply to you.
- Confirm education, application, and preapproval requirements.
- Create or review your MyNCEES account information.
- Choose the FE discipline and pay the current registration fee when eligible.
- Select an available Pearson test center and appointment date.
- Save the confirmation and review identification and arrival instructions.
When can you schedule the FE exam?
NCEES describes the FE as a year-round computer-based exam. Available dates depend on authorization, test-center capacity, and location. During scheduling, candidates can compare dates at other approved centers when the first location does not offer a suitable appointment.
Treat the appointment date as a study-plan input. Leave enough time for a diagnostic, focused review, mixed sets, and at least one realistic timed rehearsal without delaying registration indefinitely.
Results, rescheduling, and repeat attempts
NCEES states that computer-based results are typically available within 7 to 10 business days and are reported pass/fail. Candidates who do not pass receive a diagnostic report by major topic.
Cancellation, rescheduling, discipline-change, refund, and repeat-attempt rules should be confirmed in the current Examinee Guide and jurisdiction details. Do not rely on an old forum post when money or eligibility is involved.
