FE exam versus EIT certification
The Fundamentals of Engineering exam is administered by NCEES. “EIT” and “Engineer Intern” generally describe a certification status governed by a state or territory board. Passing the FE is often an important step, but the exact education, application, and certification requirements vary by jurisdiction.
Before registering, check the current NCEES FE page and the engineering board that applies to you. This prevents a study or registration decision based on terminology that differs from one jurisdiction to another.
How to prepare
- Select the FE discipline and download its current exam specification.
- Take a mixed diagnostic and classify misses by concept, lookup, setup, units, or time.
- Prioritize high-weight weak topics, then retest them in timed mixed sets.
- Practice searching the current FE Reference Handbook during every problem session.
